With baseball season just underway…

April 10, 2009 at 8:45 pm (Sports)

I figured I would throw out a few names to be on the look out for during this young season:

Yovani Gallardo, RHP, Milwaukee Brewers- Can you say future Cy Young candidate? Great stuff, great frame, great makeup…whats not to like? Whatch this kid make Brewer fans forget about C.C. Sabathia.

Adam Lind, LF, Toronto Bluejays- You probably havent heard of this kid (due to the fact he plays north of the border), but he can flat out hit. He has shown good progression the last 2 years…look for him to break out with a .275-25-90 type year.

Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B, San Diego Padres- This guy might be the best young player that most people havent heard of yet. “Kouz” has been extremely productive over the past few years (23 HR and 84RBI last year alone)…this year might be the time he comes into his own as the Padres best overall player.

John Danks, LHP, Chicago Whitesoxs- Danks broke out last year by helping pitch the Whitesox into the playoffs. This year, watch for him to solidify his spot at the top of the rotation!

Chris Iannetta, C, Colorado Rockies- Iannetta quietly became one of the best offensive catchers in baseball last year, posting a fantastic .895 OPS with 18 HR and 65 RBI. You may be thinking that he is just a product of hitter friendly Coors Field but think again….He hits better on the road!

There are too many more to list…the game of baseball is absolutley filled with young talent. Please feel free to post your own suggestions on who else is poised to break out into stardom!

What about the mariners? Aren’t they going to be great?!

No Ma’am…in fact, one of their brightest young players, Carlos Triunfel (who is currently in the minors) is out for the season. Hey, at least you have Griffey!

I think you’ll find that once we dump Adrián Beltré’ for contract reasons this summer, Matt Tuiasosopo will fill in nicely at third. Not as good as Carlos Triunfel is suppose to be but he needs to learn to slide correctly before he reaches the big league.

Tui is a nice prospect, would love to see what he can do in the bigs.

The main prospect I am interested in (for the Mariners) is Phillipe Aumont. He’s going to be the Mariners #2 pitcher (behind King Felix) before too long.
